Shilajit is a dark, mineral-rich substance traditionally used in Ayurvedic practices. It forms over long periods in mountainous regions from the breakdown of plant material and other natural matter. Its long history is interesting, but history alone does not prove that every modern product is safe or effective.
Why purification matters
Natural origin does not automatically mean ready to consume. Raw or poorly processed materials may contain unwanted contaminants. NCCIH warns that some Ayurvedic preparations have contained harmful levels of metals. Responsible sourcing, purification, and finished-product testing matter more than dramatic marketing language.
What the research can—and cannot—say
Human research on shilajit is still limited. One randomized trial in healthy men reported changes in testosterone measures after 90 days of a purified shilajit preparation. That is a specific study with a specific population and product; it does not prove broad benefits for energy, immunity, sexual health, or disease treatment. Results from one preparation should not be assumed for every product.
Questions worth asking
- Is the ingredient purified?
- Does the seller identify the serving size clearly?
- Is there credible testing for contaminants?
- Are claims realistic and limited?
- Does the label explain warnings and contact information?
Using it thoughtfully
Follow the product label. Do not combine multiple shilajit products simply because they use different formats. Speak with a healthcare professional if you are pregnant or nursing, take medication, have a medical condition, or are planning surgery.
At Zenith, we believe education should make a product easier to evaluate—not pressure you with miracle claims.
